Equality prevents violence

From platform to movement: For the Federal Office for Gender Equality (EBG), Wirz developed an integrated campaign to prevent domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence—comprehensive in scope, clear in its stance, and effective in its message.

The Challenge

Domestic violence is widespread in Switzerland—yet it often remains hidden. Over 21,000 reported cases per year, rising numbers, and a high number of unreported cases highlight its societal relevance. At the same time, the issue is marked by shame, uncertainty, and a lack of guidance. The challenge was to develop a national campaign that intervenes early: not only when violence has escalated, but at its first signs. A communication strategy that raises awareness without overwhelming. That reaches its audience without stigmatizing. And that speaks equally to diverse target groups—from those affected, to their social circles, to potential perpetrators. At the same time, the goal was to create a platform that clearly bundles information, prevention, and concrete support services, making them easily accessible—in multiple languages and tailored to a wide range of life circumstances.

The Benefits

Based on the guiding principle “Equality prevents violence,” Wirz developed a campaign that focuses on the causes of violence—particularly power imbalances and dependencies. The campaign uses everyday scenes to highlight the first signs of imbalance. Instead of explicit depictions, the imagery relies on subtle hints that encourage pause and reflection. This creates a message that remains respectful while still having an impact. To complement this, ohne-gewalt.ch was launched as a central platform that brings together information, prevention resources, and concrete support services. Clear navigation, understandable language, and an accessible design ensure that content is easy to find and relevant for diverse target groups.

The result

The campaign’s impact unfolds through the interplay of all its elements: eye-catching visuals in public spaces lead to in-depth content on ohne-gewalt.ch, where guidance, knowledge, and concrete support services come together. This creates a networked platform where individual measures are strategically interwoven and reinforce one another. Attention is not only generated but sustained—leading to understanding, context, and action. From this connection emerges a dynamic that goes beyond traditional communication: a continuous momentum that raises awareness, fosters dialogue, and gradually anchors the issue more firmly in society.

Silver Public Value at Best of Swiss Web 2026

Out of a total of 40 submissions, the project was awarded the silver medal in the “Public Value” category. The jury particularly recognized the high social value, which goes beyond purely commercial goals and makes a positive contribution to various stakeholders. Among other things, the evaluation considered consistency in user guidance, creative implementation, as well as aspects such as accessibility, data protection, UX/UI design, and the substance of the communication.
